Biography
Lawrence Hobbie completed Ph.D, MIT (1989) B.A., Yale University (1983).Selected as "Science Teacher of the Year" by Adelphi University chapter of AED/BBB (Premedical/Biology honor societies), 1997, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2011. Winner of "Teaching Excellence Award" in the tenured faculty category, Adelphi University, 2008.
Research Interest
Plant molecular genetics: Previously I studied the molecular mechanism of action and of transport of the plant hormone auxin, and the role of auxin in plant physiology and development. Since 2016 I am collaborating with Dr. Alexander Heyl, also of the Adelphi Biology Department, in studies of the evolution and mechanism of action of the plant hormone cytokinin. Science education: I am characterizing how science is taught at Adelphi and studying the adoption of evidence-based instructional practices.
