Maura-ann Matthews

Biography

Matthews brings to Aequus over twenty years of experience in the biotechnology industry developing small molecules, biologics, and cell therapies from the preclinical stage through commercialization. She has held leadership positions in Program Management, Nonclinical Development, Process Development and Discovery R&D. Most recently, as Vice President of Drug Development for Metrodora Therapeutics, Dr. Matthews had overall responsibility for a successful IND-enabling program for an anti-inflammatory protein isolated from milk. Prior to joining Metrodora, Dr. Matthews was the Senior Director of Product Development at VentiRx Pharmaceuticals where she played an important role in moving a small molecule cancer immunotherapy from discovery IND into Phase 2 clinical development. Dr. Matthews was Director of Project Management at Dendreon Corporation, Seattle, WA, through submission of the Provenge ® BLA (active cellular immunotherapy) and initial establishment of commercial manufacturing infrastructure. Before moving into leadership roles in program management, she made meaningful scientific contributions to the development of recombinant hemoglobin therapeutics, first as a process development scientist at Somatogen, Boulder, CO and later as Director of Biology for Baxter Healthcare’s Hemoglobin Therapeutics division. Dr. Matthews is an inventor on 3 issued US Patents and author of a number of peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Matthews received her PhD in Biochemistry from University of Colorado, Boulder and her BA in Chemistry from Ripon College, Ripon, WI.
