Krishnakumar Hongalgi

Biography

Dr. Krishnakumar Hongalgi is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Albany Medical College. His expertise includes management of acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, glomerular diseases, kidney stones, electrolyte and acid-base disorders. He is also an expert of renal replacement therapies including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. He has a keen interest in the delivery of continuous renal replacement therapy in the management of acute kidney injury in intensive care units and is a strong advocate for promoting home renal replacement therapies and renal transplant. Dr. Hongalgi is certified by the American College of Hypertension as a Clinical Specialist in Hypertension. He currently serves as the faculty champion for the Hypertension Workgroup of the Faculty Group Practice Quality Committee at Albany Med and is director of the Hypertension clinic, which provides comprehensive patient care for evaluation and treatment of difficult to control hypertension and complex hypertensive disorders. He is an Albany Medical Center Champion honoree and a member of the American Society of Nephrology, National Kidney Foundation and American Society of Hypertension. In addition, Dr. Hongalgi has delivered numerous lectures, authored multiple abstracts and conducted research studies.
