Biography

 After his fellowship at the Mayo clinic, he was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist in the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), the country’s largest tertiary acute hospital. Apart from general gastroenterology work, he also served as Consultant in the multidisciplinary Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre of SGH, providing care and leading the local research in IBD. Dr Thia also obtained certification as a Nutrition Support Clinician (USA), and was appointed Director of Nutrition Support Services, providing parenteral and enteral nutrition to patients with short bowel syndrome and severe malabsorption. In 2011, Dr Thia received the hospital’s ‘Service with A Heart’ Award for excellence in clinical service.

Research Interest

 Passionate about teaching and research, Dr Thia has personally mentored and supervised medical students and junior doctors and held various eaching appointments both within and without the hospital. He continues to be active in educating the lay public, medical colleagues and general practitioners through lectures and the printed media. He is an invited peer reviewer for high impact factor journals like Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Gut and the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
