Biography
Clinton W. Anderson, PhD, is interim executive director of the American Psychological Association’s Public Interest Directorate. He was named interim executive director in 2016, upon the retirement of former executive director, Gwendolyn P. Keita, PhD. Public Interest fulfills APA’s commitment to apply the science and practice of psychology to the fundamental problems of human welfare and social justice and the promotion of equitable and just treatment of all segments of society through education, training and public policy. Anderson is also director of APA's Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity Office (formerly Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Concerns Office) and associate executive director of Public Interest. Anderson was the first person hired by APA to work full time on lesbian and gay issues, which expanded over the years to also include first bisexual and then transgender issues. He has worked for APA for nearly 30 years, most recently as director of the office, and associate executive director of Public Interest. He has been instrumental in helping APA to become a national and international leader in contributing its expertise and influence to the improvement of health and fulfillment of human rights of gender and sexual minorities. Within the Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity Office, major programs under Anderson's direction include the International Psychology Network for LGBTI Issues, currently supported by a grant from the Arcus Foundation, and the Safe and Supportive Schools Project,
