Biography
Ruslan Garipov is an experienced researcher and educator, former Fulbright Scholar (2007), and Kennan Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center (2007, 2011, 2014-15). Ruslan combines teaching at AU with his work as a Consultant at the World Bank Group and Legislative Analyst at Homer Law Chartered (DC-based law firm that focus on American Indian and Alaska Native issues). Professor Garipov has a PhD in International law and focuses on International Law and Relations, Human Rights, International Security and Contemporary Russia. He is passionate about Indigenous Peoples’ Studies and aims on North American Indians and Russian Indigenous People. Ruslan Garipov is also an Associate Professor at International and European Law Department, Kazan Federal University (Republic of Tatarstan, Russia). Over the past twelve years, he has taught International Law, Russian Constitutional law, Human Rights, International Security and Relations, Environmental Issues and Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Protection. Dr. Garipov has published more than 70 papers, has spoken at different international conferences in Russia, Austria, USA, Brazil, France, UK, Norway, and Finland, and has worked with such intergovernmental organizations as OSCE, UN and OAS. Ruslan Garipov is a member of Russian Association of International law, American Society of International law and editorial staff member of the Arctic Review on Law and Politics (Norway) and Kazan Journal of International Law (Russia). His most recent book, Indigenous Peoples’ Protection in International Law (2012), was awarded the Best Monograph at Kazan Federal University (Russia).
