Biography
Alexandra Smith recently joined Anagin’s team of biologists bringing with her five years of research experience in developing in vivo behavioral models. Ms. Smith recently received her M.A. in Psychology from Indiana University in Bloomington where she studied the effects of the chemotherapeutic agent, paclitaxel, on rodent memory and learning. While at Indiana University, Ms. Smith collaborated with Dr. Yvonne Lai (Anagin co-founder) to screen novel compounds being developed to treat neurological diseases including post-traumatic stress disorder and chronic pain. In particular, her studies focused on ensuring compounds lacked unwanted or debilitating cognitive side-effects. Throughout her career, Ms. Smith has excelled in project management and designing experiments that tap into unexplored areas of rodent cognition, such as episodic memory in rats. Ms. Smith is a key member of the Anagin scientific team, helping to test compounds in biochemical and cell based assays and to work closely with Dr. Haulcomb to test Anagin’s compounds in critical in vivo models.
