Dr. Herbert Yu

Biography

Dr. Herbert Yu is a renowned expert in a molecular epidemiologist, with training in medicine, epidemiology, and clinical biochemistry. Over his 20 year career, Dr. Yu has been actively engaged in leading-edge cancer research including, breakthrough work in the areas of carcinogenic factors, molecular epidemiology, and others. His research and teaching experience include: University of Hawaii: Dr. Yu is Professor, Research Director of the Cancer Epidemiology Program, and Deputy Director at the Cancer Research Center. His research focuses on gene-environment interaction in cancer development and molecular changes in tumor progression and disease prognosis. Yale University: Professor in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health, Division of Chronic Disease Epidemiology. Professor Yu’s recent research interests include new technologies and mechanisms for cancer diagnosis, and the studies of biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. He has completed many clinical and epidemiologic studies on several major cancer sites, including the breast, ovary, endometrium, liver, lung, pancreas and prostate. Education Dr. Yu earned his M.D. at Shanghai University Medical School, followed by an MSc in epidemiology and Ph.D. in Clinical Biochemistry from University of Toronto.
