Biography

Brian T. Griffin serves as executive vice president and president of the Commercial & Specialty Business Division (CSBD) for Anthem, Inc. As a member of the company’s executive leadership team, he is responsible for Anthem’s commercial business, including: State-based Exchanges; Individual, Small Group and Large Group local business; National Accounts; and Specialty Products, including dental, vision, life, disability, and workers’ compensation. Mr. Griffin also leads Anthem’s Pharmacy Division, overseeing a multi-year enterprise strategy and managing the company’s strategic pharmacy benefit management (PBM) relationship. Mr. Griffin and his team have Profit & Loss responsibility for more than 30 million medical members and 18.3 million specialty members. Mr. Griffin joined Anthem in 2013 as president and CEO of the company’s second largest affiliated health plan, Empire BlueCross BlueShield. In this capacity, Mr. Griffin was responsible for overseeing the development of Empire’s long-term strategic direction and managing the plan’s individual, small and large group business, including sales, account management, medical management, provider solutions, marketing, underwriting and regulatory, and customer relationships. In 2014, Mr. Griffin assumed additional responsibilities as president of Anthem’s Pharmacy Division. Mr. Griffin is an industry leader with more than 30 years of executive-level health care experience. Previously, he served in a variety of senior leadership roles at Medco Health Solutions, a NYSE listed “Fortune 34” Pharmacy Services and Management Company with over $68B in revenues, $16B in assets, and 24,000 employees. As a member of Medco’s Executive, Management, and Operating Committees for over 13 years, Mr. Griffin’s leadership roles included CEO of Medco International, CEO of Medco Celesio, president of Medco’s Health Plan Division, and, post-Medco acquisition, president of Express Scripts International and Subsidiaries. Mr. Griffin is chair of the board of the Visiting Nurse Association of Central New Jersey, and sits on the boards of National Medical Fellowships and Rayant Insurance Company of New York. Mr. Griffin earned his Bachelor's degree from Seton Hall University.
