Biography

Arizona Association of Health Plans (AzAHP), whose member companies serve the health care needs of nearly 2,000,000 Arizona citizens enrolled in the state’s Medicaid program. The AzAHP health plans – acute care, behavioral health, and long-term care – are the private half of the public-private partnership that makes the Arizona Medicaid model one of the most successful managed care programs in the Nation.Deb formerly worked at Gallagher & Kennedy in their government affairs & lobbying practice, and before that, she served as Associate Vice President at Arizona State University’s Downtown Phoenix campus and as Associate Dean of the College of Public Programs. Preceding her time at the university, Deb served as Chief of Staff for Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon. Deb served as a member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 2000-2004. As Chairman of the House Health Committee, she was recognized for her efforts to expand and improve health care for the citizens of Arizona.Deb also worked for U.S. Senator John McCain, first as his Chief of Staff in Washington, D.C., and then as his State Director in Phoenix. She ran the Arizona headquarters for the Senator’s presidential campaign in 2000 and served on the National Finance Committee for his 2008 presidential campaign.Prior to joining the McCain staff, she served as Special Assistant to President George H.W. Bush and as Director of the White House Office of Media Relations. She worked for the National Republican Congressional Committee for several years, where she was assigned to congressional races across the country and spent several years working on Capitol Hill. She is a 1979 graduate of the University of Iowa with a B.S. in Journalism.
