Biography
Kathy Mitchell is currently the Senior Director of Government Affairs for PetSmart. In this role, she is responsible for developing and executing strategic government relations priorities for the company. Before joining PetSmart in October 2016, Kathy served as the Director of US Government Relations for the world’s largest animal health company, and in the past has held government affairs and policy positions at federal lobbying firms, national trade associations, NGOs, and in the Executive and Legislative branches of the federal government.Kathy serves on the Board of Trustees for the Human Animal Bond Research Institute and on the National Advisory Board for Pet Partners. She also serves on several Boards of Directors for state retail associations including the Arizona Retailers Association, the Retail Association of Massachusetts, the Maryland Retailers Association, the New Jersey Retail Merchants Association, the Retail Association of Nevada, the Texas Retailers Association, and the Florida Retail Federation. In addition, Kathy serves on numerous public policy and government affairs committees for state retail and pet industry trade associations across the country. A graduate of Leadership Tulsa Class 30 and an active member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Kathy has previously held board positions for non-profit and community organizations in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Washington, DC, and New York City, including Volunteers of America, the Junior League, Girl Scouts, and local Chambers of Commerce.Kathy holds undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates from the University of Oklahoma, Columbia University, Fordham University, and Thunderbird School of Global Management.While living and working in Phoenix, Kathy also is an active member of the Junior League of Phoenix and serves as a member of the Rotary Club.
