Peter Whitney

Biography

Peter holds degrees in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University and in Materials Science and Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and carried out post-doctoral research at Nippon Telegraph and Telephone in Japan where he helped to establish and expand their foreign researcher program. He has been involved in the development of advanced III-V materials and structures for the telecommunications industry since 1985, including the first wide-scale commercialization of the 980nm pump laser.As an original founder, Dr. Whitney has been providing leadership and technical vision to Axsun’s engineering teams since its founding in 1998, adding expertise in MEMS devices, semiconductor amplifiers, materials, design and process development for opto-electronic packaging and in qualification/reliability to the broad base of technical capabilities in the company. In his current roles he oversees the R&D organization, new product development and transfer into manufacturing.
