Biography
Jeré Mohr believes in the adage that the more you put into something, the more you’ll get out. Take the three-week canoe trip north of the Arctic Circle he took in 2014, for example. Success-- and perhaps even survival--depended on several months of advance research and planning. “When we’re planning one of these trips, we do as much research as we can,” Jeré says. “If you don’t prepare, you can actually get yourself in a lot of trouble.” As a senior hydrogeologist and project manager, he knows firsthand that successful adventures and projects both depend on thorough investigation and accurate data. Jeré joined Barr’s Duluth office in 2004 with a master’s degree in geological sciences. Early on, he worked in the field on petroleum spill responses, brownfield redevelopment projects, and environmental site investigations. In recent years he has focused primarily on projects for mining and power clients. He also serves as Branch Office Coordinator in Duluth. “I find mining projects interesting because of the intersection of geology and engineering,” he said. “And the fact that I live in northeastern Minnesota makes it regionally relevant to me.” Away from work, Jeré and his wife, Leah Gruhn, a Barr geologist, spend as much time as possible on the water, on a bike, or on a trail. They often compete together in endurance events that test their physical prowess as well as their planning skills. “We like to take on challenges that go beyond the norm,” Jeré says. “Those remote trips give me a real sense of accomplishment.”
