Biography

Dr. Joyce Warner, associate professor, joined the Reading Faculty in the Adrian Dominican School of Education in 2003. From 2001 through 2003 she served as Regional Coordinator for the Florida Literacy and Reading Excellence (FLaRE) Center at the University of Central Florida. She has also taught in undergraduate and graduate Reading/Literacy degree and certification programs at Florida Atlantic University, Wayne State University (Michigan) and Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Warner has 30 years of K-12 experience in all areas and levels of literacy, reading and language arts education. She led school-wide Title I programs in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. and initiated and led a district wide high school literacy program in Michigan. She is a Teacher/Teacher Trainer for the Orton-Gillingham reading process and holds the Florida certification in Reading (K-12). Dr. Warner is active in local, state, and international reading associations and has presented at peer-reviewed international, national and state conferences. She is currently a manuscript reviewer for The Reading Teacher and the Journal of Literacy Research and Instruction and is co-editor of Teachers on the Cutting Edge, an annual publication of the Florida Reading Association. She has acted as consultant to the Michigan Department of Education, the Louisiana Department of Education and Broward county public schools. During 2007 she served on a blue ribbon committee using Louisiana’s Language Competencies for Teachers in Higher Education Programs Rubric for Review of Evidence to assess Louisiana’s colleges and universities. Currently, she serves as a reviewer for the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and is active on local municipal and nonprofit organization education advisory boards. Areas of Interest: all areas of reading, writing, and literacy,including learners at risk of reading failure; Teacher Education Preparation; Adolescent Literacy; Assessment of and for learning; MultidisciplinaryLiteracy; Response of Intervention (RtI) implementation and practice; 21st century leadership for reading/literacy programs and initiatives.
