Helmut Hegger

Biography

Dr. Helmut Hegger is Senior Vice President of U.S. Business Services. Part of Bayer’s global in-house competence center, this organization consults, manages, and executes operational processes and business services. In this role, he oversees IT, Order to Cash, Meetings & Convention Management, and Employee and General Services for the Bayer U.S. organization. Dr. Hegger brings two decades of management experience to his role, and has broad expertise in Global Information Technology, Leadership and Business Optimization. A native of Germany, he started his career as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Los Alamos National Laboratory for Material Science and Technology in New Mexico, USA. He joined Bayer in 1999, as Project Manager System Development in the Bayer Business Services area. From there, he quickly moved up the ranks in the global Chemical and Pharmaceutical conglomerate and became Manager Information Technology in Bayer’s Business Unit Polyurethanes Europe, and later Director/Head of eBusiness and Process Improvement for Bayer MaterialScience.  In late 2005, Dr. Hegger moved to Hong Kong to become VP Organization, Information Systems and Process Improvement for Bayer MaterialScience. He returned to Germany in 2008, as Head of Global Strategy and Support, IT-Operations, within Bayer Business Services. Within two years, Dr. Hegger was promoted to Global VP HR Applications. In this role, he was fully accountable for all HR system solutions and system operations (all HR processes) for Bayer’s SAP HR system landscape and the HR Self Service Portal with 110,000 system users across 180 legal entities and 70 countries. This position led to him being appointed global Head/SVP of HR/Services. Operating from Bayer’s headquarters in Leverkusen, he was fully accountable for the company’s global HR shared service organization. In early 2014, Dr. Hegger relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to serve as President of Bayer Business and Technology Services (BBTS) LLC. In January 2017, he assumed his current role as Senior Vice President of U.S. Business Services. He earned a Master’s-level degree and a PhD in Physics, both from the University of Cologne, Germany.
