Biography

Dr. Cloud joined Baylor University in the fall of 2010 after previously serving on the faculty for 10 years at LSU, 6 years at Virginia Tech and 15 years at Florida State University where she was the Margaret A. Sitton Professor of Textiles and Consumer Sciences for 12 years and department chair for 11 years. She was appointed as department chair for Family and Consumer Sciences in February 2014. Currently serving as Vice President of Publications for the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA), Dr. Cloud also served four years as Editor of the Clothing and Textiles Research Journal and has received the Prentice Hall/ITAA Distinguished Scholar Award, the Lectra Award for Innovation in Teaching, and the Pacesetter Award from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro School of Environmental Sciences. Dr. Cloud’s teaching and research are focused on textile product performance with emphasis on the health and comfort aspects of a variety of functional fabrics and task-specific garments. She has studied the influence of human factors and environmental attributes on protective clothing for agricultural workers, medical personnel, and police/military personnel. Her work also extends to garments for dance, sports, and posture support. This work has contributed to her record of more than 40 publications, 75 professional presentations, $435,000 in grant support, and direction of 30 doctoral, master’s or undergraduate student research projects. In addition to ITAA, Dr. Cloud is active in the American Association of Textiles Chemists and Colorists, the Industrial Fabrics Association International and the F-23 and D-13 Committees of ASTM. She has served as External Reviewer for Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the University of the West Indies, and two doctoral students from University of Chennai, India.
