John R. Belk Jr.

Biography

 Mr. John R. Belk, Jr., also known as Johnny, is a Partner of Carolina Capital Land Partners LLC. Mr. Belk joined Belk, Inc. in 1983. Mr. Belk served as the Chief Operating Officer of Belk Inc. from May 26, 2004 to January 2016 and served as its President from May 2004 to January 2016. He has more than thirty years of experience in retail as well as two decades of public company board service. Mr. Belk served as Co-President of Belk Inc. since May 26, 2004 and as its President of Finance, Systems and Operations from May 4, 1998 to May 2004. Prior to that, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Belk Stores Services, Inc. from March 1997 to May 1998 and as its Senior Vice President of Operations from March 1993 to March 1997. He served as an Officer of most of the Belk Companies until May 1998 and has been employed in the Belk retail organization in various positions since 1986. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Novant Health, Inc. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Presbyterian Healthcare. He serves as the Vice Chair of The Belk Foundation. He has been a Director of Bassett Furniture Industries, Incorporated since July 13, 2016. He serves as a Director of Belk/Sycamore. He serves as a Director of MQ Associates, Inc. He serves as a Member of Board of Trustees of Novant Health. Mr. Belk served as a Director of Belk Inc. from 1998 to 2015. He served as a Director of Alltel Corporation from 1996 to November 16, 2007. He served as a Director of Bank of America Corp. from 2001 to 2007. He served as a Director of Harris Teeter Supermarkets, Inc. (formerly Ruddick Corporation) from 1997 to 2014. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Way of the Central Carolinas and chairs the Belk School of Business Advisory Board at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C., with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics/Political science and received a Master Degree in Business Administration from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
