Biography

28, 2011. Mr. Walls has been an Independent Director of Signet Jewelers Limited since August 1, 2002. He has been a Independent Non-Executive Director at Mytrah Energy Limited since November 4, 2011. Mr. Walls served as Non-Executive Director of Delphic Diagnostics Limited. He served as an Independent Non-Executive Director for Aviva PLC from May 3, 2004 to May 8, 2013. He served as Senior Independent Non-Executive Director at Stagecoach Group PLC from June 2002 to July 2002 and also served as its Non Executive Director from June 2000 to August 25, 2006. Mr. Walls served as a Non-Executive Director of The Mersey Docks and Harbour Company Limited from September 1, 2002 to May 8, 2003. He served as Non-Executive Director at Hilton Group PLC (now Ladbrokes PLC) from June 1996 to May 16, 2003 and served as its Senior Independent Director until May 2003. He serves as Treasurer and Trustee of the British Red Cross Society. Mr. Walls is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. 

Research Interest

Biocon's major areas of research now include cancer, diabetes, and other auto-immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. Because of the high percentage of people in India who chew betel or tobacco, India accounts for eighty-six per cent of oral cancer in the world, known locally as "cancer cheek". Diabetes is prevalent, and people who do not wear shoes are at risk to have a minor scrape or injury develop into gangrene, or "diabetes foot".Biocon is also working on drugs to treat psoriasis, a skin pigment disease which can result in social ostracization.
