Biography
Mr. Luis Branco is the Vice President of Research and Co-Founder at BioFactura, Inc. Mr. Branco brings 15 years of experience in the fields of molecular biology, immunology, virology, and cell biology to BioFactura. Mr. Branco has extensive experience in the design and implementation of bacterial, baculoviral, and mammalian expression systems for the production of recombinant therapeutic molecules. Before joining BioFactura, Luis led the Stable Cell Development Group at Human Genome Sciences, Inc. (HGS). During his two and a half year tenure he developed and implemented new methodologies for the generation of NS0 and CHO stable cell lines, reducing expression system development time by more than half. Mr. Branco coupled flow cytometry and stable cell line generation to develop efficient methods for the generation and high throughput screening of neutralizing monoclonal antibodies to membrane bound receptor targets such as CCR5, CXCR3, C3aR, and HPRAJ-70. Prior to HGS, Mr. Branco gained industry experience with a five-year tenure at MedImmune, Inc., during which he had extensive involvement in the development of research and clinical bioassays for the company’s flagship product, SynagisTM. In addition, he performed leading research in the characterization of MedImmune’s monoclonal antibody, SiplizumabTM, for transplantation, psoriasis, RA, Lupus, and other T cell-associated malignancies. Mr. Branco began his career at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst performing post-graduate research in the field of baculovirology, including design of baculovirus expression vectors and insect cell culture processes
