Biography
Janet Reis came to Boise State University as a Professor Emerita from the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In her 23 years at the University of Illinois, she also worked with the School of Nursing and the Department of Community Health. She began her career as a National Institute of Health Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Psychology at Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois, having completed her doctorate in Psychology at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY B). In the ten years of working in the Chicago area, she collaborated with the Chicago Department of Health on an evaluation of the Department’s Maternal and Child Health program funded by the Ford Foundation and Chicago foundations. Leaving Chicago to return to Western New York, she obtained a faculty position in SUNY B’s School of Nursing and then moved West again back to Illinois.
Research Interest
Dr. Reis’s research interests include health education interventions primarily for health disparity populations, clinical trial testing, HIV and safe sec strategies, substance abuse, minority health and health promotion. She has worked extensively with physicians in a community hospital based Family Medicine Residency program in the development of clinical research programs.
