Biography
"Eric Jarvis holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in American Studies from Boston University. His research and teaching interests include modern American liberalism, intersections of race, gender, and U.S. politics, the Civil Rights movement, and how notions of “place” have shaped liberal thought and cultural production. Jarvis’ doctoral dissertation, “‘Metropolis of Discontent’: Chicago and the Evolution of Modern Liberalism, 1890-1920,” examines how the city of Chicago–its social and economic conditions, its liberal discourse, and its cultural symbolism–shaped the evolution of modern liberal thought. He is currently preparing a book manuscript based on the dissertation. He has also published “Toward a New Deal for Coal?: The United States Coal Commission of 1922” in The Journal of the Historical Society. In addition, Jarvis has served as Associate Director for Boston University Summer Term and as the Director of Program Development and the Director of Resource Development for the International House of Blues Foundation."
