Biography
"Jeffrey G. Karam teaches courses on International Relations, Security Studies, Politics of the Middle East, and Wars and Revolutions in the Middle East at the Pardee School of Global Studies. Dr. Karam is also a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the International Security Program at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University. As an interdisciplinary and multilingual scholar, his research and teaching spans international relations, security studies, Middle Eastern studies, and comparative politics with an emphasis on American Foreign Policy and National Security in the Middle East. Dr. Karam is completing a book manuscript on the nexus between American intelligence and foreign policy in the Middle East. Fluent in Arabic and French, he has conducted extensive fieldwork throughout the Middle East, as well as in the United States and the United Kingdom. His research has been supported by organizations including the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University, the Crown Center for Middle East Studies at Brandeis University, the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University, and the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut. Recently, Dr. Karam’s article “Missing Revolution: The American Intelligence Failure in Iraq, 1958” was published in Intelligence and National Security. Furthermore, Dr. Karam’s article “Beyond Sectarianism: Understanding Lebanese Politics through a Cross-Sectarian Lens” was recently published by the Crown Center for Middle East Studies. Dr. Karam previously taught “Politics of the Middle East” at the Pardee School of Global Studies. He is currently teaching “Introduction to Security Studies” and the “Politics of the Persian Gulf and Arabian Peninsula.” In spring 2017, Dr. Karam is teaching two new courses that he designed for the Pardee School of Global Studies: “The Middle East in International Relations” and “Wars, Revolutions, and Coups in the Middle East.” Dr. Karam holds a Ph.D. in Politics from Brandeis University, an M.A. in Political Studies from the American University of Beirut, and a dual B.A. in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the Notre Dame University, Louaize"
