Biography
Michael J. Smith PE became the President of BTM Engineering in 2011. He received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky, a Masters in Business Administration from Alabama A&M University, and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Louisville. Mike is a registered Professional Engineer in several states including Kentucky, Missouri, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, South Dakota, and Tennessee. Prior to joining BTM Engineering, Mike’s career included responsible design and supervisory positions focusing on a wide variety of mechanical and civil/structural needs for projects ranging from new plant construction to retro-fitting and repairs to existing facilities. Other responsibilities have ranged from plant engineering manager to capital project management working directly for Fortune 500 companies. Mike has extensive experience in structural, civil, and mechanical design of industrial and commercial facilities, structures, buildings and pipe racks. These designs include medium rise frames, high hazard blast resistant structures, and sanitary (clean) facilities along with containment lagoons and ground water protection systems. He has completed numerous structural designs of steel and concrete park bridges, observation platforms and concrete box culverts. He also completed structural inspections of steel, concrete, and timber structures for repairs or expansion. Mike’s extensive knowledge in developing innovative, cost effective designs, construction techniques, and attention to detail consistently helps BTM’s clients achieve their project goals.
