Biography

Dr. Taeyou Jung is a director at the Center of Achievement through Adapted Physical Activity, which provides internationally recognized adapted therapeutic exercise and aquatic therapy programs for people with special needs. He is a professor in the Department of Kinesiology, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Adapted Physical Activity and Therapeutic Exercise. He is also an adjunct professor in Assistive Technology Engineering Graduate Program. Dr. Jung received his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Seoul National University, Korea and master's degree in Kinesiology with his major in Adapted Physical Education and minor in Special Education from the University of Virginia. He earned his doctoral degree in Kinesiology with emphases on Sports Medicine and Adapted Physical Activity from the University of Virginia. Prior to joining faculty at CSUN, Dr. Jung had worked at the Gait Analysis and Human Performance Laboratory in the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center and the McCue Sports Medicine Center, Virginia. He had also worked as an adapted physical education specialist in Albemarle County public schools in Virginia.

Research Interest

Dr. Jung's primary research focuses on clinical investigations of functional movements in populations with neuromuscular disabilities, such as balance and gait assessment following therapeutic exercise or aquatic exercise; and underwater gait analysis of people with mobility impairment. Current research projects include investigating the effects of cardiovascular exercise on cognitive functions among people with multiple sclerosis in collaboration with UCLA Neurology Department; studying physiological responses of aquatic treadmill walking in people post-stroke; and examining balance improvement after aquatic exercise in older people with osteoarthritis. Dr. Jung and his graduate students are actively involved in disseminating research outcomes via professional presentations and publications in the field of Adapted Physical Activity, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation.
