Biography
Steven J. Halm, DO, FAAP, FACP is Assistant Dean for Simulation Medicine, Chair of the Department of Simulation Medicine, and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Originially from the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York, Dr. Halm has been with CUSOM since August 2015 and spent his education years in Pennsylvania before starting and growing a multispecialty practice in North Carolina in 1993. Dually boarded by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics for over 20 years, he has been a hospital medical staff leader providing inpatient and outpatient primary care services to patients near Greensboro, NC. In 2013 he completed a summer program at the Institute for Medical Simulation at Harvard University and entered full time academic medicine as the Medical Director of the simulation center at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV. He brings a wealth of information on standardized patients, physician-patient communications, inter-professional education, and simulation applications to medical education. He is recognized as a national leader in preparing students for their advanced medical licensure examinations (COMLEX 2-PE). Dr. Halm has been a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for the FAA, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He has served on numerous international mission trips, has been active in many community boards and service organizations, and has two successful adult children. Dr. Halm, along with his wife, Kathy, and their two beagles, Hawkeye and BJ, enjoy their regular strolls in their new NC neighborhood. He enjoys tennis, golf, fly-fishing and time with family.
