Biography

V Krishnan Ramanujan is an Assistant Professor of Surgery & Biomedical Sciences, Principal Investigator, Metabolic Photonics Laboratory Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA, USA. After obtaining his PhD in Condensed Matter Physics (India, 2001). Dr Ramanujan received postdoctoral training in Cell Biology/ Biophysics at UT Health Science Center, San Antonio, TX. During these years, he developed high resolution single cell imaging techniques (spectral, lifetime and FRET imaging) addressing critical issues at the interfaces of of cancer and aging. The Fluorescence lifetime imaging system that he developed using a streak camera (Streak-FLIM) is currently being marketed by Hamamatsu Photonics Inc., At Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, he is leading the Metabolic photonics laboratory which utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to understand the mitochondrial role in breast cancer and aging as well as to extend the scope of high-resolution imaging to preclinical and clinical applications.
