Biography
Retired Army lieutenant general after over 37 years of active service. Infantryman, paratrooper, Ranger. Member, US Army Ranger Hall of Fame. PhD in Philosophy, Johns Hopkins University. Senior Fellow, Institute for the Study of War and Institute of Land Warfare. Member, Council on Foreign Relations. Board member, National Leadership Roundtable on Church Management. Commanded US and Multi-national troops in Haiti as a Colonel, Bosnia as a Brigadier General, and Iraq (during the Surge of 2007-8) as a Lieutenant General.

The nexus of strategy, policy, and military operations–conventional and irregular. The nature and practice of civil-military relationships in the U.S.. The difference and relationship between fighting and waging war. The moral and organizational dimensions of war. Building indigenous security forces and security ministries–military and police.
