Kim Roberts

Biography

Dr. Kim Roberts is a Nonresident Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security, Strategic Foresight Initiative. Among her research interests is the growing influence of actors outside the government, including Multi-National Corporations, in the global decision-making process. She is also an adjunct Associate Professor at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. Dr. Roberts was previously Vice President, Government Affairs at Science Applications International Corporation. In this position, she managed a significant part of the company’s legislative portfolio. She also directed SAIC’s external relationships – overseeing the company’s role as a thought leader in the Washington community. Prior to joining SAIC, Dr. Roberts served as the US Army’s Public Affairs Officer in Okinawa, Japan, receiving the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. Dr. Roberts is a former international broadcast journalist, and has reported stories on economic, political, and security issues throughout the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Haiti – including the US military intervention in Haiti, a profile of Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat, the political future of Jordan, and Islamic extremism in Egypt. Dr. Roberts and her husband founded TractorShare, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering farming communities in developing nations by providing the agricultural tools to build a sustainable and healthy society. Currently, they are working with a community in the Yucatan peninsula to help supply much-needed farming equipment. Dr. Roberts received a PhD from the University of Miami in international studies where she received a teaching fellowship, a master’s of international public policy from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, and a BA in international politics from Pennsylvania State University.
