Matthew Manders

Biography

Throughout his 30-year career at Cigna, Matt Manders has worked to drive change in healthcare for our country – and in doing so, transform Cigna into an innovative leader focused on creating a sustainable system and an outstanding overall experience for each customer. In his current role, Matt leads Cigna’s Seniors (Cigna-HealthSpring), Individual and Family Plans, Group Insurance and CareAllies businesses. Matt’s strong track record of building and growing businesses is without parallel at Cigna, and given the increasing importance of government as a client of health care, Matt is responsible for driving growth in these businesses in a dynamic environment. In his prior role, Matt led all U.S.-based commercial business with employers and individuals, and the operations teams that deliver health services in markets across the U.S. He ensured that Cigna struck a balance between access, quality and cost of care through our Total Health & Network and Service Operations organizations, and was accountable for leading all commercial segments and Exchanges, Underwriting and Informatics. Matt previously served as President of Regional and Operations, as well as President of Customer Segments, where he was responsible for sales and client management for Cigna's National Accounts, mid-sized employer, government, Taft-Hartley and Small Business Customer Segments. Prior to leading Customer Segments, he served as President of Cigna HealthCare’s Middle Market Segment and National Contracting and Provider Services functions. In this latter capacity, Manders was accountable for national contracting and provider strategy, vendor, ancillary and facility contracting, network contracting and management, field hub operations and the provider data organization.

Research Interest

During his career with Cigna, Matt also served as Senior Vice President and Controller of Cigna HealthCare. Prior to that, he held the positions of President and General Manager of Cigna HealthCare Mid-Atlantic and Cigna HealthCare Virginia. He has also held leadership positions in network operations and financial operations. Matt also spent seven years with Cigna International in several different finance positions. Prior to joining Cigna, Manders was a Senior Auditor for Transamerica Corp. Matt received a Bachelor of Science degree from Rider University in New Jersey. He is a Certified Public Accountant. At Cigna, he is the Executive sponsor of the Health Service Leadership Program and the African American Colleague Resource Group.
