Biography
John Apostolakis, MD, is a Staff Anesthesiologist in Cleveland Clinic's Anesthesiology Institute. He is board-certified in anesthesiology and perioperative transesophageal echocardiography. Dr. Apostolakis specializes in cardiothoracic anesthesiology. Dr. Apostolakis is a native of Buffalo, N.Y. Following an undergraduate degree from Princeton University, Dr. Apostolakis received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed an internship in internal medicine at the Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif., and a residency in anesthesiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He continued his clinical training, receiving a fellowship in cardiac anesthesiology from Cleveland Clinic.
Research Interest
Prior to his appointment to the Cleveland Clinic in 1998, Dr. Apostolakis was a Staff Anesthesiologist, Resident Education Coordinator, Co-Director of Obstetric Anesthesia and Chairman of the Clinical Competence Committee at the Naval Medical Center in Oakland. He served as General Medical Officer of 3rd Force Service Support Group, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force on Okinawa, Japan. He also was appointed Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Anesthesia, at the University of California at San Francisco. He has published several articles and abstracts on his specialty interests and has co-authored a chapter on valvular heart disease in a medical textbook. He has been an invited lecturer to national and international medical conferences and symposia, speaking on his specialty interests. Dr. Apostolakis is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Echocardiography and the Ohio Society of Anesthesiologists.
