Biography
"Andrew C. Gross is currently professor of marketing and international business at Cleveland State University, where he has been a faculty member since 1968. In addition to his academic duties, he is an active consultant to companies, partnerships, nonprofit and government agencies. His degrees include a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Case Institute of Technology (now CWRU), an M.B.A. from Western Reserve University (now CWRU), and a Ph.D. in Economics/Marketing from the Ohio State University. Dr. Gross served in industry and government for several years before entering academe on a full-time basis. He worked as a staff engineer for Ohio Edison Company, Standard Oil of Ohio (now BP America), and the Ohio Department of Highways. In 1961 he was a founding partner in a market research and publishing firm, Predicasts, Inc., of Cleveland, Ohio. He served as a senior consultant and as a member of the board of directors of that firm between 1968 and 1982. While at Predicasts, he wrote 20 monographs on various industries and product categories. In the mid-1960s and early 1970s, he acted as a full-time consultant to Statistics Canada and the Science Council of Canada. In these and subsequent decades he collaborated with the Hungarian Institute for Market Research. Dr. Gross served as a visiting professor at several institutes in the past forty years: Simon Fraser, McGill, and McMaster universities in Canada; the University of New South Wales in Australia; and the Monterey Institute of International Studies in California. In 1971-72 he held the first IREX Fellowship in marketing in his native Hungary. In 1989, and again in 1992, he was a Fulbright Senior Scholar at the Budapest University of Economic Sciences and the new International Management Center (now part of Central European University)in Hungary, where he was appointed an adjunct senior lecturer. He is currently serving on the board of editors of various journals and on executive committees of civic organizations such as the World Trade Association of Cleveland. He is a book reviewer for several international business and marketing textbook publishers. During the past 35 years, he has written over 100 articles, chapters, proceedings, or papers for such journals as Australian Market Researcher, Business Economics, Business Horizons, Business Quarterly (Canada), Columbia Journal of World Business, Datamation, European Journal of Marketing, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Advertising, Marketing (Hungary), Relations Industrielle, and others. Dr. Gross is the co-author of four books: Education and Science (Science Council of Canada, 1973), Business Marketing (Houghton Mifflin, 1993), Statistics for the 21st Century (Irwin, 1995), and, most recently, Management Consulting in Central Europe (KJK, 2003). Cleveland State University presented Dr. Gross with the Distinguished Research/Teaching award in 1981 and the Distinguished Service award in 2006."
