Biography
" Jeffrey Bowen is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), and a BoardSource Certified Governance Trainer (CGT), with a BA in Psychology from Kent State University, and both a Master of Nonprofit Organizations (MNO) and an Appreciative Inquiry (AI) Certificate in Positive Business and Society Change from The Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. Jeffrey earned a Certificate in Fund Raising from The Fundraising School at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University, and was trained by Neighborhood Leadership Cleveland at Cleveland State University. In addition to many years in Sales & Marketing, Jeffrey's career as a nonprofit professional includes working as a Crisis Intervention Counselor, Youth Services Caseworker, After-School Program Fundraiser, as Director of Development & Public Affairs for the Lake Erie Girl Scout Council, and as the Executive Director of Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity. Jeffrey served two years as Adjunct Faculty at the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University and at the Minor in Nonprofit Studies Program at The College of Education, Health and Human Services at Kent State University, teaching Undergraduate and Master-level courses in nonprofit management, organizational leadership and fundraising. He was awarded a 5-Year, Level 3 appointment to the Cleveland State University Graduate Faculty in the Spring of 2016 and joined the Levin College Faculty as a full-time College Lecturer in Organizational Leadership in the Fall of 2016. He is also a Development, Public Relations & Nonprofit Management Consultant, offering fundraising and communications assistance, nonprofit board training, staff & volunteer recruitment, and retreat facilitation"
Research Interest
" In addition to his work as a nonprofit professional and educator, Jeffrey is an accomplished journalist and poet, and an Afro-Cuban percussionist. He has performed with multiple Jazz, Folk, R & B, Reggae, and Roots Music ensembles, appears on several recordings, and serves as the resident conga player, percussionist & spoken word artist with the popular Cleveland band, ""Cats On Holiday"". Jeffrey's stories and articles have appeared in Akron Beacon Journal, Call & Post, City News, Cleveland Scene, Cool Cleveland, Doan Brook Watershed, EarthWatch, EcoWatch, Elephant Journal, Girl Scout News, Green City-Blue Lake, Heights Observer, ideastream, Live Cleveland, Neighborhood News, Nonprofit Notes, Sun News, and multiple Habitat for Humanity publications. His poetry has been published by Art Crimes, Cicada, Cool Cleveland, Crisis Chronicles, Dimensions, Doan Brook Watershed, Excursions, Green Panda Press, Hessler Street Fair, Off the Page, Procrastination Press, Poet's League of Greater Cleveland, The City, The Cleveland Reader, and Whiskey Island Magazine. He is one of six poets profiled in the 1995 documentary, ""Off the Page"". Four of his poems are featured on ""Cleveland Tumbadors"", an album of Traditional Afro Cuban Music and Latin Jazz on Fame City Records. His poem, ""Welcome to New Orleans"" appears on the Cats On Holiday CD, ""Holiday in a Box"" from COHTONE Records."
