Biography
Professor Helfand received his B.A. from Amherst College, M.S. in Physics, and his Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Massachusetts. He has also been a visiting scientist at the Danish Space Research institute and a Sackler Distinguished visiting astronomer at Cambridge. He has been a professor in both Physics and Astronomy, and is currently Chair of the Department of Astronomy.
