Biography
Julia Siemon is a specialist in Renaissance European art. In addition to lecturing at Columbia, she is an Assistant Research Curator in the Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She holds a PhD in Art History from Columbia University and a BA in Art History and Spanish from Washington University in Saint Louis. Research for her doctoral dissertation, "Bronzino, Politics and Portraiture in 1530s Florence," was carried out with the support of fellowships from the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz and the Medici Archive Project. Her current project is the organization of an international exhibition dedicated to late Renaissance silver, opening at The Met in December 2017, and traveling to Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire, in April 2018. She is editor and co-author (with Ellenor Alcorn, Mary Beard, Wolfram Koeppe, Xavier F. Salomon, and others) of an accompanying volume. She was also recently involved in the organization of an exhibition on Renaissance Maiolica at The Met (October 2016-May 2017).
