Karina Yazdanbakhsh

Biography

A New York Blood Center researcher since 1996, Dr. Yazdanbakhsh has focused her research on the investigation of mechanisms involved in antibody-mediated immune destruction and pathogenic responses in autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. Throughout her career, Dr. Yazdanbakhsh has received funding from the NIH/NHLBI and non-NIH foundations including the American Heart Association and the National Blood Foundation, totaling more than $10 million. She serves on the Board of the National Blood Foundation Research and Education Trust and the Editorial Board of Transfusion and has assessed numerous NIH grant proposals as a member of review study sections. She has written several book chapters and co-authored more than 50 research papers in high-impact journals including Blood, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, The Journal of Experimental Medicine, The Journal of Immunology, Haematologica, and Transfusion. Dr. Yazdanbakhsh received her PhD degree in molecular biology from the National Institute for Medical Research, Mill Hill, England and her postdoctoral training at Columbia University and later at the Rockefeller University in Molecular Immunology.
