Biography

 Mr. Daniel P. Huttenlocher, also known as Dan, has been the Founding Dean at Cornell Tech since 2012 and serves as its Vice Provost. Mr. Huttenlocher serves as a Professor of Computing, Information Science and Business, Professor of Information Technology and Director of Technology Management at S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management. He has extensive experience in technology innovation and commercialization and expertise in developing next-generation products and services. He has more than ten years of experience in managing research and development teams in corporate and academic settings. He served as Vice President of Software Development at BuySideDirect, LLC. He served as the Chief Technology Officer of Intelligent Markets. He served as Principal Scientist and Member of the Senior Leadership Team at Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). He led to the ISO JBIG2 image compression standard and used in the ScanSoft Pagis scanning suite. From 2001 to 2012, he held a variety of academic positions at Cornell, including dean of Computing and Information Science. At Cornell, he chaired the Provost's task force on Computing and Information, which has recommended a new academic unit for computing research and education. He served as a Professor of Computer Science and Technology Management at Cornell University since 1988. He has been a Director of Amazon.com, Inc. since September 7, 2016 and Corning Incorporated since February 3, 2015. He serves as a Director of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. He served as a Director of Intelligent Markets, Inc. He has received many distinguished teaching awards in the College of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences; in 1996, he was named a Stephen H. Weiss Fellow at Cornell in recognition of teaching excellence and received the Excellence in Science and Technology Award from Xerox PARC. He is a renowned Computer Science Researcher and Educator and a Prolific Inventor with two dozen US patents. He received his PhD in Computer Science from MIT. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science and Psychology from the University of Michigan.
