Biography

Mr. Patrick W. Thomas serves as the President of PlasticsEurope Deutschland e.V. Mr. Thomas has been Chief Executive Officer at Covestro Aktiengesellschaft (known as Covestro AG, Leverkusen) since August 2015, has been its Chairman of the Board of Management since January 1, 2007 and also has been its Interim Chief Financial Officer since June 5, 2017. He served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bayer Materialscience AG at Bayer Aktiengesellschaft since January 1, 2017. Mr. Thomas served as a Division President of Polyurethanes at Huntsman LLC until February 29, 2004. Mr. Thomas served as a Manager and President of Polyurethanes of HI, a subsidiary of Huntsman International Holdings LLC since 1999. He served as a Divisional President of Huntsman Advanced Materials LLC from June 2003 to February 29, 2004. In 1999, he joined Huntsman Corporation, a U.S. chemicals company, based in Belgium. Mr. Thomas served as the President of the Polyurethanes Division of Huntsman International LLC from 1999 to February 29, 2004. He served as Executive Vice President of Hmp Equity Holdings Corp., since March 2004. Prior to joining the Bayer Group in 2006, Mr. Thomas spent seven years with the Huntsman Corporation. Since 2003, he served as Corporate Executive Vice President of Huntsman Matlin Patterson. He joined Bayer Group on August 15, 2006. Mr. Thomas gained 20 years’ experience with ICI Pharmaceuticals and Agrochemicals. From 1982 to 1999, Mr. Thomas worked at ICI where he held numerous management positions, including Polyurethanes Business Director of OPE from 1993 to 1997, Polyurethanes International Marketing and Planning Manager from 1991 to 1993 and Polyurethanes Business Engineering & Investment Manager from 1989 to 1991. He served as Regional Direcfor Europe, Africa & the Middle East of ICI Polyurethanes since 1993. He served as Global Chief Executive Officer of Polyurethanes at ICI plc from 1997 to 1999. He served as the Chairman and Director of Bayer Material science, a subsidiary of Bayer AG. He served as a Non Executive Director of BG Group plc since December 2010. He serves as Member of the Supervisory Board at Bayer Technology Services GmbH. He has been a Member of Supervisory Board at Akzo Nobel N.V. since 2017. He serves as Chairman of the Oxford University Business Economics Programme Board (OUBEP), Chairman of the advisory board of the European Institute for Industrial Leadership and Chairman of the World Chlorine Council. Mr. Thomas graduated from Oxford University with an engineering degree in 1979.
