Biography

 Matthew Leonard is Executive Vice President of Pharmaceutical Contracting, Purchasing & Managed Care for CVS Health. Leonard leads strategy and operations for CVS Health’s pharmaceutical purchasing program, encompassing retail, mail, long-term care and specialty pharmacies. He is responsible for CVS Health’s relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers and wholesalers, and directs the trade strategy associated with CVS Health’s commercial, government, and health plan customers, as well as Medicare Part D affiliates. In addition, he oversees the retail business unit’s payer relations efforts as well as CVS Caremark’s inventory management and procurement operations. Since joining the company in 1995, Leonard has been instrumental in major initiatives, leading the integration of pharmacy purchasing and operations of multiple acquisitions, including Revco Drug Stores, Eckerd Drugs, Albertsons/Sav-on Pharmacy, Caremark and Omnicare. He is a five-time recipient of the company’s CEO Award, the highest honor given at the company. In addition, Leonard was awarded the IMS Health Pharmacy Partnership Award in 2007 and Chain Drug Pharmacy Executive of the Year from Chain Drug Review in 2009. Leonard currently serves on CVS Health’s Enterprise Operating Committee and has been a member of Caremark’s Executive Committee since 2011. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Red Oak Sourcing, LLC, as well as the company’s Interim President. Red Oak is the largest generic pharmaceutical sourcing entity in the United States. Leonard is a member of the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA), the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) and the Rhode Island Pharmacists Association (RIPA). He also serves on the board of trustees for the University of Rhode Island Foundation. He earned his degree in pharmacy from the University of Rhode Island’s College of Pharmacy and is a licensed pharmacist.
