Carolyn Dever

Biography

Carolyn Dever is a scholar of British literature and culture of the nineteenth century, as well as gender studies. She has published two books, Death and the Mother from Dickens to Freud: Victorian Fiction and the Anxiety of Origins (Cambridge), and Skeptical Feminisms: Activist Theory, Activist Practice (Minnesota); and edited two books, The Literary Channel: The Inter-National Invention of the Novel (Princeton), and The Cambridge Companion to Anthony Trollope (Cambridge). Her current research is focused on the collaborative journals of the Victorian poets "Michael Field." In her role as Provost, Carolyn Dever serves as Dartmouth's Chief Academic Officer and Chief Budget Officer.
