Biography
Dr. John Balzarini is an urban sociologist interested in the causes and consequences of gentrification on cities and communities. He earned his doctorate in 2013 from Temple University in Philadelphia. His research focuses on community conflicts related to development and gentrification, specifically how different urban residents frame their right to the city in the context of neoliberal urbanization and urbanism in flux.
Research Interest
His current research project utilizes interviews and ethnographic fieldwork to explore the attitudes of residential and commercial landlords in Philadelphia and the agency of landlords to shape outcomes for residents and businesses of gentrifying communities.
