Biography
Dr. Staurowsky came to Drexel in 2011 after an exemplary career at Ithaca College. She is an internationally recognized expert on social justice issues in sport, including college athletes’ rights, gender equity and Title IX, and the misappropriation of American Indian imagery. She is co-author of the book, College Athletes for Hire: The Evolution and Legacy of the NCAA Amateur Myth, editor of the forthcoming Women in Sport: Continuing a Journey of Liberation and Celebration. She is lead author on the Women's Sports Foundation's 2015 report Her Life Depends on It III: Sport and Physical Activity in the Lives of American Girls and Women and co-author on a forthcoming report from the WSF on workplace climate for women working in college sport. Dr. Staurowsky served as a witness on behalf of the plaintiff in O’Bannon v. NCAA. She has co-authored several reports with Ramogi Huma, executive director of the National College Players Association, the most recent being The $6 Billion Heist: Robbing College Athletes Under the Guise of Amateurism.Dr. Staurowsky’s op-eds have appeared in the Forbes.com, Huffington Post, Indian Country Today Network, New York Times, News from Indian Country, Philly.com, Sport Litigation Alert, Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal, The Atlantic, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and U.S. News & World Report.
