Biography
"Dr. Buehler has over 30 years of governmental public health experience at federal, state, and local levels. He formerly served as the Health Commissioner for the City of Philadelphia, where he directed the Philadelphia Department of Public Health in achieving its mission “to protect and promote the health of all Philadelphians and to provide a safety net for the most vulnerable.†Before moving to Philadelphia in 2013, Dr. Buehler was a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service and a Program Office Director at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, where he worked in multiple areas including general field epidemiology, maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS and related diseases, ethics, emergency response and preparedness, public health surveillance, and informatics. From 2002-2010, he was a member of the faculty of the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Dr. Buehler started his CDC career as an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer assigned to the state health department in Georgia and later served in Georgia as a mid-career CDC assignee and a consultant to its Epidemiology Branch. "
