Biography
Dr. Camp received his Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Wayne State University and has been on the staff of EMU since 1979. Prior to coming to Eastern, Dr. Camp was on the corporate Human Resource staff of a large Michigan utility, where he held positions in training, research and employment.Dr. Camp is senior author of a book on interviewing (with Drs. Mary Vielhaber and Jack Simonetti) entitled "Strategic Interviewing: How to Hire Good People "which is published by Jossey Bass, 2001. This book has been translated into four different languages. He is also senior author of "Toward a More Organizationally Effective Training Strategy and Practice" published by Prentice Hall.For 20+ years, he co-taught (with Dr. Mary Vielhaber) a seminar on interviewing in the Executive Program at the University of Michigan Business School. This seminar was consistently one of the highest rated programs in the Executive Program.Dr. Camp has consulted with a wide range of clients on interviewing including Lockheed Martin, Cargill, Wal-Mart, Fisher Scientific, General Motors, Ford Motor, Scholastic Inc, Johnson Controls, Dominos Pizza and the executive search firms Egon Zehnder International, and Spencer Stuart.He has conducted interviewer training in 17 different countries. Dr. Camp has also served on the editorial board of the Journal of Business and Psychology.
Research Interest
Dr. Camp teaches undergraduate and graduate organizational behavior, human resource management, staffing, and human resource development. His research and consulting interests are in the area of talent assessment, particularly behaviorally based interviewing.
