Jeffery Duncan

Biography

 Jeff has more than 30 years of intellectual property (IP) and legal experience. As General Counsel, he negotiates, drafts and manages the agreements that govern the several strategic relationships Elevance has with customers and development partners. As VP of IP, he builds and maintains the robust portfolio of patents and trademarks that protect Elevance’s innovations and brands. Jeff is an adjunct professor at the John Marshall Law School, where he teaches two classes a year on Patent Law. He has also lectured on various IP topics in the U.S., Europe and China. Before joining Elevance in 2012, Jeff was a partner at Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, where, among other things, he served as outside IP counsel to Elevance since 2008. At Brinks, his practice included the full range of procuring, evaluating and litigating IP rights; negotiating and drafting technology agreements; and advising large and small clients on their IP strategies. He also served as head of Brinks’ Bio/Pharma Practice Group and on the firm’s Board and Executive Committee. Jeff is active in the Licensing Executives Society International, Inc. with a worldwide membership of over 9,000 intellectual property, technology and business development professionals, and served as Chair of its Chicago Chapter. Jeff has a B.S. in chemistry from Brigham Young University and a J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University.
