Biography
Dr. Scott Wolter, associate professor of engineering, holds degrees from The Pennsylvania State University and North Carolina State University in materials science and engineering, and Elon University in business administration. He has held posts as a National Research Council research associate through support from the US Army Research Office (ARO), as an IPA/materials engineer in the Materials Division at ARO, and as a research staff member in the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University. His research has centered on the development of novel materials including carbon nanotubes, graphene, diamond, and compound semiconductors with applications concerning energy technologies, biomedical instrumentation and devices, and environmental sensors. Much of this work has involved surface chemical modifications for tailoring desired properties. He is presently working on x-ray imaging technologies for detection of threat substances through a multi-university initiative sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security. His research has resulted in over 60 publications, numerous international conference presentations, and intellectual property transactions.
