Biography
Dian Dowling Evans is Clinical Professor and Specialty Coordinator of the Family/Emergency Nurse Practitioner program. She is dually board certified as a family and emergency nurse practitioner (ENP) and was selected as a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners for her work in advancing the specialty of the ENP. Dr. Evans completed her PhD in nursing in 2009 at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center-Memphis. Her research compared the effects of yoga in patients with chronic back pain, a common reason for visiting emergency departments. Dr. Evans obtained her BSN in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and her master's degree in nursing as a family nurse practitioner from Emory University in 1990 which launched her career in emergency care. Her clinical practice as an ENP spans over 26 years, and she continues to practice in the Emory University Hospital Emergency Department. Dr. Evans is a nationally known speaker with numerous publications on clinical topics in emergency care and emergency nurse practitioner education. In 2014 she became a founding board member and is now the current executive Chair of the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners, a national organization dedicated to promoting education, certification and practice standards for the ENP specialty.
