Sharron M. Close Phd

Biography

 Dr. Sharron Close is an assistant professor at the Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. She joined the faculty in September of 2014. Her area of clinical and research interest is pediatric primary care, developmental pediatrics, management of chronic conditions of genetic origin and variations of sex chromosome aneuploidy. She is a board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner with a BS, MS and PhD from Columbia University School of Nursing in New York. Her Master’s Work was recognized in 2003 with the Theresa Marcos Jansen Award in Pediatrics and her dissertation research on boys with Klinefelter Syndrome was recognized in 2011 with the Columbia University School of Nursing Dissertation Excellence Award. Dr. Close completed a 2-year post-doctoral research program at Yale School of Nursing in New Haven Connecticut where her work focused on family management challenges associated with Klinefelter Syndrome. In 2013 she was inducted as a Fellow in the New York Academy of Medicine. In the summer of 2014, she completed an intensive genetics study program offered by the National Institute of Nursing Research at the NIH. Her current work at the School of Nursing includes teaching in genetics and pediatric primary care. Formerly an audiologist, Dr. Close provides expertise in ear, nose and throat pathophysiology and communication disorders throughout the lifespan.
