Research Interest
Molecular mechanisms of tumor initiation by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and estrogens. Origin of human cancer at the molecular level. Prevention of cancer. This research includes: (a) in vitro and in vivo binding studies of estrogens to DNA, determination of the structure and quantitation of the adducts; (b) correlation of ras-oncogene mutations and formation of depurinating estrogen-DNA adducts; (c) mechanism of tumor initiation by catechol quinones of natural and synthetic estrogens; (d) analysis of biomarkers for the etiology and early detection of breast, prostate and other human cancers; (e) chemoprevention of human cancers by resveratrol, N-acetylcysteine and other compounds that reduce the formation of depurinating estrogen-DNA adducts. .
