Research Interest

Prof. David Bright research interests are centered on the pragmatic implementation and improvement of direct patient care services in community and ambulatory care pharmacy practice. More specifically, Bright, excited about growth of direct patient care opportunities like medication therapy management (MTM) and collaborative drug therapy management (CDTM). MTM is a form of extended patient counseling, usually taking place in a community pharmacy setting, and generally consisting of 15-60 minute appointments. In the ambulatory care setting, CDTM is similar to MTM, but CDTM often incorporates a different emphasis on the assessment and plan for improving patient care. Especially as MTM and CDTM continue to grow, his interested in the involvement of pharmacy technicians in both dispensing and non-dispensing roles to assist the pharmacist, as well as areas of synergy between pharmacogenomics and these direct patient care opportunities.
