Biography

His graduate research was concerned with understanding the biochemistry of two hexokinase isoforms from the human pathogen Trypanosoma brucei. My research was published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry and Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications. I also examined existing therapeutics for trypanocidal activities to use as treatments for African Sleeping Sickness. This work was published in Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology and Experimental Parasitology. Activities and Societies: Genetics and Biochemistry Graduate Student Association American Society of Microbiology. In his  first postdoctoral position, I investigated the changes in metabolism that accompanied human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection. My research found that HCMV infection increased glutamine metabolism during infection to maintain anaplerosis in the tricarboxylic acid cycle and to maintain a high level of ATP production. These findings were published in the Journal of Virology.
